Department: SOM KC Internal Medicine - Medical Oncology ----- Medicine Clinical Oncology Position Title: Assistant Professor - IM Dept (Medical Oncology) Job Family Group: Academic Job Description Summary: The University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) is seeking a full time academic clinical physician/investigator with demonstrated interest in geriatric oncology. The successful candidate will join a burgeoning team of physicians and allied health professionals in either the Division of Medical Oncology, the Division of Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapy, the Division of Geriatrics, or combination of the above, as well as the University of Kansas Cancer Center (KUCC), the Center for Survivorship and Patient-Oriented Research (CSPOR), and the Landon Center on Aging (LCOA). This position will be at least 75% research (clinical research, translational research, laboratory research all welcome), with the remaining effort split between clinical care and education. Responsibilities center on development of a geriatric oncology program and contributions to programs within KUCC, CSPOR, and LCOA. This can include development of a T32 training program. Successful candidates will have demonstrated record of excellence in clinical care, originality and productivity in research, existing or potential for consistent extramural funding, and an interest in graduate and medical education. Job Description: Job Duties Outlined Participate in consults, inpatient service coverage and on-call on a rotating basis with other division providers. Ambulatory clinic for a geriatric oncology population. Participate in scholarly activities derived primarily from clinical and educational activities. Program development of a geriatric medical oncology program. Required Qualifications Education: MD, DO, MBBS, or equivalent degree (PhD alone is insufficient); BC/BE in Hematology or Medical Oncology AND Geriatrics. This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community. Work Experience: Hematology or Oncology or Geriatrics inpatient service and outpatient clinic; NIH or other federal funding; publications in geriatric oncology. Preferred Qualifications Education: MD/PhD or equivalent. Work Experience: Geriatric Oncology outpatient clinic; active R01 or equivalent funding; publications in cancer survivorship and/or accelerated aging. Experience with research and grant writing.
