Position: L&T Litigation Paralegal
Location: New York, New York
Duration: Full-Time, In Office
Salary: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00, depending on experience
JOB SUMMARY
A Paralegal who will be a member of our L&T Litigation Team and will be responsible for the maintenance and monitoring of housing court matters in the Civil Court of the City of New York, individually and in collaboration with other team members. The Paralegal will be responsible for the commencement of cases. Additionally, the Paralegal will assist attorneys in aspects of the litigation process for Civil and Supreme matters.
The perfect candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively with others on their assigned caseloads, while being able to prioritize tasks based on case urgency and importance.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Commencement of cases to collect rent arrears or recover possession of property (Non-Payment of Rent), including:
- Draft rent demands;
- Draft and file Notices of Petition & Petitions;
- Coordinate with Process Servers to ensure all of notices/demands are properly served;
- Coordinate the filing of documents with the Court, whether electronic or in-person;
- Maintain and monitor the progress of case files to ensure all deadlines are met, and to resolve any issues.
- Assist Attorneys with the filing Supreme Court documents electronically in New York State Court Electronic Filing;
- Assist Attorneys with Administrative Agency filing, including New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, Loft Board, and Division of Housing and Community Renewal;
- Prepare correspondence and documents for service;
- Assist with trial preparation;
- Assist with daily and other administrative tasks as assigned;
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s Degree or higher
- 1 years of Landlord & Tenant paralegal experience, or related Real Estate Management experience
- Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision;
- Excellent communications skills and interpersonal skills;
- Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
- Demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong focus on collaboration;
- Writes clearly and informatively; Edits work for spelling and grammar;
- Responds promptly to client needs; Maintains confidentiality, Upholds firm values;
- Experienced with Microsoft Word and Excel.
