Location: The role is located in Lincolnshire, IL (north of Chicago). This role requires the employee to work fully onsite.
Hourly Rate: $22.50
This temporary position is not eligible for benefits.
Job Description Summary
The Application Engineer Summer Intern will be providing engineering support, customization of new engine configurations, engine installation testing, preparing test reports, and checking engine kit compatibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Utilize CATIA to check kit compatibility for standard engines including to but not limited to: radiators, intake systems, exhaust systems and update bill of materials and SharePoint with relevant information.
- Assist in preparing application reports and compiling test data
- Assist in the development of ISO9000-2015 work instructions, processes and documentations
- Conduct Engine testing as required
- Assist in preparing sample engine for customers with the help of dynamometer technicians.
- Develop engine kits and assist vendors with kits when required
- Develop technical bulletins, instruction material, engine specification sheets, etc.
- Communicate, organize, and maintain confidential information and material
- Support co-workers in other departments as needed
- Inform Manager of all noteworthy activities
- Follow safety guidelines and department and corporate policies and procedures
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of industrial diesel engines or a similar product as well as engineering and mechanics involved in the installation and operation of diesel and gasoline engines
- Willingness to learn to test engines using test equipment as follows:
a. Cooling System Evaluation (Air-to-boil Testing)
b. Engine Vibration Measurement & Optimization
c. Air Intake System Evaluation
d. Exhaust System & Evaluation
e. Exhaust After-treatment System Evaluation (Catalyst, DPF Regeneration, SCR Systems)
f. Electrical System Evaluation
g. CAN System
- Able to use a variety of tools and test equipment
- Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal
- Ability to comprehend a variety of instructions, both oral and written
- Ability to multi-task, establish priorities and meet deadlines, maintain a flexible attitude and approach towards assignments, and maintain level of organization in a changing and fast paced environment
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Intermediate knowledge of word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications
- Intermediate knowledge of CAD and other engineering tools, a plus
Education
- Must be currently enrolled student majoring in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or related field
- Must be at least at a Junior status

Work Environment
- Work is performed in an office environment; no housing or transportation will be provided
- Noise level is moderate.
- Office hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday
- Limited exposure to the warehouse. Limited exposure to temperature variations when shipping doors are open
