Our AV Department focuses on design engineering and integration and installation for all our museums projects.

We’re hiring a Lead Audiovisual

Technician to take ownership of on-site installation work, lead small crews, and ensure exhibits are built

cleanly, safely, and to spec.

This role is ideal for someone who’s hands-on, organized, calm under pressure, and proud of building professional installations that look great and work reliably for years

Responsibilities

Lead installation team of 1 to 2 AV Technicians, assigning tasks, setting pace, and maintainquality.

Take directions from an AV Site Supervisor, when applicable.

Assist with the commissioning of permanent museum exhibit AV systems (video, audio, control networking basics).

Interpret project documentation (drawings, scope notes, rack elevations, signal flow, shop drawings) and execute install plans.

Perform physical installation work including:

Mounting displays, projectors, speakers, sensors, and exhibit hardware (as applico Pulling, dressing, labeling, and terminating cabling as required.

Building/finishing equipment racks, backboards, and enclosures neatly and service.

Troubleshoot issues during install and startup (signal flow, EDID/HDCP symptoms, audio buzz/hum, network connectivity basics).

Coordinate with museum staff, fabricators, exhibit designers, electricians, and general contractors on-site.

Maintain jobsite safety, cleanliness, and professionalism—museums are public-facing environments.

Document changes, redlines, punch lists, and field notes; support closeout and turnover

Troubleshoot support claims during the systems warranty period.

Experience

3 years of professional AV installation experience (integration, exhibits, corporate, themed environment, or similar).

Experience leading small crews and keeping work moving without sacrificing quality.

Proficient with hand tools and comfortable with daily install work (ladders/lifts as needed, drilling, mounting, fastening, measuring/leveling).

Strong cabling best practices: routing, strain relief, service loops, labeling, and clean finishes.

Solid understanding of AV signal flow and common installation troubleshooting.

Comfortable working in active construction environments and in finished museum spaces.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel ~60-80% (multi-day site visits are common).

Preferred Experience

Museum/themed entertainment/permanent installation experience. Familiarity with basic networking concepts (IP addressing basics, switches, PoE, VLAN awareness).

Experience with control systems (Q-SYS, Extron, Medialon) or show-control style systems.

Familiarity with DSP audio setup and tuning basics.

OSHA 10/30, lift certifications, manufacturer certifications (helpful but not required).

AVIXA CTS Certification.

Requirements

Ensures Installs are clean, consistent, and serviceable (cable management, labeling, rack finish).

Keeps small crews are productive and clear on priorities day-to-day.

Issues are troubleshot efficiently and communicated early—not discovered at the end.

Museum partners feel confident, informed, and supported throughout installation and turnover.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Job sites may include construction areas and finished galleries; work may involve ladders, lifts, tight spaces, and lifting typical AV equipment.

Must be able to safely lift and move equipment (commonly up to 50 lbs.) and work on your feet for extended periods.
