Job Title: Kitchen Utility Steward
Department: Food & Beverage
Reports To: Head Chef
Schedule: Full-time; open availability including weekends and holidays is required.

Position Overview
The Kitchen Utility Steward is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, dishwashing, and receiving areas. This role ensures that all cleaning equipment and tools are properly operated and maintained. The Kitchen Steward performs a variety of cleaning tasks, including washing dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment, as well as sweeping, mopping, and detailing work areas. All duties must be performed in compliance with Department of Health regulations to maintain a safe, sanitary, and efficient kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, including commercial dishwashing and pot-washing machinery.
• Wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, pots, pans, utensils, kitchen vessels, and other food service equipment.
• Clean and maintain kitchen workspaces, dishwashing areas, receiving areas, and storage areas.
• Sweep, mop, empty rubbish bins, and properly dispose of waste in designated areas.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the kitchen to support efficient operations.
• Follow all Department of Health regulations, food safety standards, and sanitation procedures.
• Assist cooks and other kitchen staff with cleaning and support tasks as needed.
• Clean and detail kitchen equipment to ensure it remains in safe operating condition.
• Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to management promptly.
• Support a positive team environment by working collaboratively with kitchen staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, stewarding, dishwashing, or food service environment preferred.
• Experience operating commercial dishwashing or pot-washing equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and Department of Health standards.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Dependable with a strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe workplace.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to safely operate commercial dishwashing equipment and cleaning tools.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, moisture, cleaning chemicals, and varying noise levels.
• Manual dexterity to safely handle kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, and cleaning supplies.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety procedures.
