Quality Assurance Inspector — 2nd Shift
Location: Peosta, Iowa | On-Site
Pay: $20–$25/hour $0.50/hour shift differential
Position Summary
Premier Tooling & Manufacturing is seeking a driven Quality Inspector with strong mechanical aptitude to join our 2nd Shift team. This role offers a direct path for career advancement to a Quality Engineer level.
You'll start on the production floor performing critical inspections, while working alongside our quality management systems, automation technology, and compliance frameworks. We're looking for someone who wants to master our processes, take ownership of documentation, and grow into an engineering role within the company.
Schedule
- Monday–Thursday, 3:30 PM – 2 AM (core schedule)
- Regular overtime available based on production demands, including Friday (3:30 PM–Midnight) and Saturday (11 AM–5 PM) shifts
- Overtime is rotated among team members when possible
Essential Functions
- Read and interpret blueprints
- Perform receiving, first piece, in-process, and last piece inspections
- Conduct final audit inspections and dock audits
- Perform part layout inspections and quality documentation (PPAP, ISIR, APQP)
- Paint and engrave templates
- Utilize statistical process control (SPC) methods
- Assist with calibration activities
- Participate in corrective action investigations and continuous improvement efforts
Required Qualifications
- Industry experience: 1–3 years of hands-on experience in metal stamping, tooling, die work, CNC machining, automated manufacturing lines, or precision fabrication
- Industry background: Experience must come from a hard-goods mechanical manufacturing environment (food manufacturing, chemical processing, or CPG backgrounds alone won't meet this requirement)
- Blueprint reading: Proven ability to read and interpret industrial blueprints and mechanical specifications
- Precision measurement: Experience using calipers, micrometers, protractors, or specialized gauges
- Attention to detail: Strong documentation habits and the ability to follow, maintain, and update written quality procedures
- Physical requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; stand and walk up to 3 miles per shift on concrete floors; manual dexterity for tight-tolerance measurement work
- Education: High school diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with ISO quality standards and documentation packages (PPAP, ISIR, APQP)
- Experience with CMM equipment or automated/robotic inspection cells
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, barcode label printing)
Compensation & Benefits
- $20 - $25/hour $0.50/hour shift differential. Starting pay based on experience, blueprint reading ability, and inspection background
- Monthly attendance award: $174/month (equivalent to $1/hr)
