General Summary
An equipment operator operates a variety of equipment including; tractor, scraper, forklift, bobcat, backhoe, excavator, frontend loader, side boom, semi-tractor with trailer etc.
Essential Job Functions
1. Regular and reliable attendance.
2. Prepared and on time for scheduled shift with proper PPE.
3. Responsible for Daily Shift validations.
4. Must possess a current and valid Driver License with clean driving record.
5. Have appropriate certifications to operate the equipment being used.
6. Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspection before leaving the yard, check all fluids/tires/lights/ and all signs as listed on pre-trip.
7. Gather appropriate job permits and ensure they are filled out correctly with correct signatures.
8. Have appropriate licenses and certifications to operate the equipment being used.
9. Follow and/or complete the Detailed Daily Work Plan and ensure crew actively participates, knows and follows each procedure.
10. Be aware of the dangers associated with hazardous atmospheres and hazards associated with using tools and equipment. Preform a job walk to identify all potential hazards around working area and take procedural actions to mitigate or eliminate if any found.
11. Participate in safe work, job site safety audits and report near hits to supervision.
12. Perform monthly tool audits on equipment and ensure compliance (vehicle registration/ fire extinguisher).
13. Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner, in addition to loading and unloading material as needed for each job site.
14. Perform tasks assigned by Crew Lead or Supervisor.
15. Perform various duties like setting and removing shoring boxes, digging and back filling various types of ditches and trenches.
16. Shoot elevations with eye level and/or laser.
17. Test for H2S or oxygen deficient atmospheres with monitor.
18. Be actively involved in all safety processes.
19. Develop knowledge of KSI SOPs and refer to the SOP to ensure compliance.
20. Follow all KSI and Customer policies and procedures.
21. Perform all physical and mental requirements listed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read and write in English
- Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions in English
- Ability to communicate with employees, customers, vendors, sub-contractors, etc. in a professional and courteous manner.
- Knowledge of Lock Out/ Tag Out process
- Knowledge of technology (iPads, cellphones etc.)
- Knowledge of Stop Work Authority (SWA)
- Ability to complete all safety training required
- Ability to work with pipe and hand wrenches, hammers, shovels and gas monitors
- Ability to use Gas Monitors
- Knowledge of rigging loads to be lifted as well as loading equipment onto tractor trailer and binding/securing for transport
- Ability to operate various types of equipment controls (Case, John Deere, Caterpillar etc.) and load charts
- Ability to demonstrate basic construction safety rules
- Ability to dig excavations, build locations, perform road repair, etc. as directed
Education and Experience
Preferably 1-2 years of industry experience along with knowledge of tools.
Working Conditions: The locations vary from site to site. Work is physically demanding and requires the ability to concentrate well on the job at hand, in all types of weather. Majority of the work is construction-based work. Walking and working surface vary depending on the terrain, from flat to extreme slopes and frozen, wet, snowy and slippery conditions.
Working Hours: Normally, a full-time employee will work 40 hours per week, depending on the factors such as weather and schedules. Work schedules and hours may vary depending on specific client locations and projects. In general, applicable work schedules include 5-8’s and 4-10’s. All labor laws in reference to rest breaks and meal periods will be followed.
