Krystle Klear Communications is a boutique federal business development and strategic communications firm based in McLean, VA. We work with defense and homeland security technology companies to build pipelines, develop relationships, and win government contracts. We are a small, high-output team. THE ROLE
We are looking for a Business Development Director who can operate across the full BD lifecycle from identifying opportunities and cultivating relationships to supporting capture and delivery. The right person is equally comfortable in a senior government meeting and building a pipeline tracker.
You will report directly to senior leadership and work closely with the COO on day-to-day client execution.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage and grow relationships with government and industry stakeholders across defense and DHS
• Identify and qualify federal contracting opportunities; maintain and update pipeline trackers
• Support and co-lead client meetings, strategy sessions, and government engagements
• Develop client-facing materials including capability statements, pitch decks, and briefings
• Monitor federal acquisition landscapes across DoW, DHS, and adjacent agencies
• Coordinate with the communications team to align BD activity with broader client strategy
• Provide direction to junior team members and review deliverables for quality
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Demonstrated experience in federal business development, government contracting, or defense consulting
• Existing relationships within DoW, DHS, or the Intelligence Community
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to engage senior officials and executives
• Self-directed with a track record of executing without close supervision
• Comfortable operating in a lean, fast-moving environment
Preferred
• Direct experience with federal acquisition vehicles
• Background in defense technology, AI/ML, data management, or C2 systems
• Prior work in a consulting or advisory capacity supporting government contractors
POSITION DETAILS
Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Hours: Flexible; up to full-time based on workload and performance
Location: Remote-first with periodic in-person requirements in the DC metro area
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience
