KR Utilities is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead, develop, and continuously improve our company-wide Health and Safety Program. This position will be based out of our corporate office in Cuba, New York, and will support both routine utility construction operations and emergency storm restoration work.
The Safety Manager will serve as a visible safety leader across the organization, working closely with executive leadership, operations management, field supervisors, crews, subcontractors, and utility clients. This role is critical to maintaining a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting client requirements, and helping KR Utilities continue to grow within the utility construction and storm restoration markets.
Key Responsibilities
The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing KR Utilities’ Health and Safety Program across all company operations. Responsibilities include:
- Develop, maintain, and improve company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, state regulations, and utility client safety requirements.
- Maintain OSHA injury and illness records, including OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 logs.
- Lead incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
- Support safety prequalification packages, audits, inspections, and client safety reviews.
- Serve as KR Utilities’ safety representative during emergency storm restoration events.
- Provide field safety oversight for crews, subcontractors, and mutual assistance resources.
- Monitor PPE compliance, job briefings, and safe field execution.
- Coach and mentor leadership, supervisors, and crew leaders to strengthen safety performance.
- Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and leadership safety engagements.
- Establish and enforce subcontractor safety expectations and compliance standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive safety experience in electrical utility construction or storm restoration.
- OSHA 30 Construction certification required.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, especially those related to electrical transmission and distribution work.
- Experience managing OSHA recordkeeping and incident reporting.
- Experience supporting emergency storm restoration events.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel as needed, including extended deployments during storm response events.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 500/501 certification strongly preferred.
- CSP, CHST, or equivalent professional safety certification preferred.
- Experience working directly with investor-owned utilities.
- Familiarity with DOT compliance and fleet safety programs.
- Experience developing safety programs.
- Prior experience training field leadership and influencing safety culture change.
