Manufacturing Engineer / Manufacturing Planner
Job Description
This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining manufacturing plans, production methodologies, and tooling strategies to support complex aerospace and defense manufacturing programs. The position ensures producibility, cost efficiency, quality, and schedule adherence across the product lifecycle while supporting digital manufacturing transformation initiatives such as MESci implementation and standard manufacturing plan development.
The role will develop Bill of Materials (BOMs), work instructions, integrated work statements, and manufacturing sequencing to define and document as-built configurations. It will also collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to integrate technical solutions across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain disciplines.
Additional responsibilities include evaluating design producibility, resolving manufacturing and tooling issues, supporting production readiness, and implementing lean manufacturing principles and advanced digital tools.
This position supports an MESci manufacturing planning rewrite within the BDS Fabrication organization and requires close collaboration with engineering and operations teams to establish standardized manufacturing planning processes.
Position Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain manufacturing plans, Bills of Materials, work instructions, and sequencing to support production and delivery requirements
- Lead and implement manufacturing planning strategies aligned with business and program objectives
- Develop and manage tooling requirements from concept through design, implementation, and end-of-life disposition
- Perform producibility assessments and provide feedback to engineering design teams to improve manufacturability, cost, and schedule
- Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to integrate cross-functional technical solutions
- Analyze design/build concepts to ensure production readiness and manufacturability
- Develop and maintain program build architecture and integrated work statements
- Investigate and resolve manufacturing, tooling, and production issues impacting cost, quality, or schedule
- Review and approve supplier and engineering data to ensure compliance with manufacturing requirements
- Support MESci implementation and standardization of manufacturing planning processes
- Develop and integrate suppliers, processes, materials, data, and manufacturing technologies
- Apply lean manufacturing principles and advanced manufacturing technologies to improve efficiency and quality
- Draft, update, and maintain manufacturing processes and procedures in compliance with business and regulatory requirements
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- 5 years of related manufacturing engineering or manufacturing planning experience (or equivalent combination such as Master’s 7 years, PhD 4 years)
- Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining manufacturing plans, Bills of Materials, and work instructions
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
- Experience supporting defense and/or aerospace manufacturing environments
- Experience with 3D model-based manufacturing instructions
- Experience with digital manufacturing and tools such as Siemens NX, CATIA, CREO, IVT, DELMIA, VISVSA, MES, Gold, PrimeR, Aurora
- Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems, including MESci (Manufacturing Execution Systems common image)
- Experience reviewing and approving engineering deliverables (e.g., installation plans, tool orders, line stock checks)
- Experience working in cross-functional IPT environments
- Knowledge of producibility analysis, variation analysis, and lean manufacturing principles
