Position Summary
The Commercial Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and well-documented cost estimates for commercial electrical projects. This role works closely with project management, operations, and leadership to ensure bids are profitable, realistic, and aligned with company standards.
This is not a “plug numbers into software and hope” role. You’ll be expected to understand scope, read drawings thoroughly, ask the right questions, and protect margins while staying competitive.
Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Bidding
- Prepare detailed electrical estimates for commercial projects including:
- Tenant improvements
- Office, retail, warehouse, and light industrial projects
- Service upgrades and power distribution
- Lighting and lighting controls
- Fire alarm, low voltage, and special systems (when applicable)
- Perform accurate material takeoffs from drawings and specifications
- Solicit, review, and level vendor and subcontractor pricing
- Identify scope gaps, conflicts, and risk items before bid submission
- Assemble complete bid packages including clarifications, exclusions, and assumptions
- Meet bid deadlines consistently—no last-minute scrambling
Pre-Construction & Handoff
- Participate in internal bid reviews with leadership
- Assist with project handoff to project management after award
- Provide clear scope breakdowns and budget details for execution teams
- Support value engineering and alternate pricing when requested
Systems & Documentation
- Maintain organized estimate files, takeoffs, and backup documentation
- Use estimating software and company systems consistently
- Track bid results, awarded jobs, and historical pricing for future reference
- Help improve estimating standards, templates, and workflows over time
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate clearly with vendors, suppliers, GCs, and internal teams
- Ask questions early rather than guessing
- Represent Krise Services professionally in all bid-related interactions
Required Qualifications
- 3 years of experience estimating commercial electrical projects
- Strong ability to read and interpret:
- Electrical drawings
- One-line diagrams
- Specifications and schedules
- Solid understanding of:
- NEC and local electrical codes
- Commercial electrical installation methods
- Labor productivity and material pricing
- Experience with electrical estimating software (Accubid, ConEst, Trimble, or similar)
- Proficiency with Excel and basic cost analysis
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong time management skills—can juggle multiple bids without losing quality
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of commercial electrical estimating experience
- Field experience as an electrician or foreman
- Experience with negotiated work, design-build, or GMP projects
- Familiarity with project management platforms (ServiceTitan, Procore, or similar)
- Understanding of job costing and post-job estimate analysis
