Role Description The Machinist role at KRINGSTAD IRONWORKS INC is a full-time, on-site position located in Park River, ND, M-Th 7am-5:30 pm and some Fridays half day. The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual and/or CNC machines to produce and repair metal parts according to specifications and work orders. Daily tasks include reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings, selecting appropriate tools and materials, measuring components for accuracy, and performing routine machine maintenance. The role involves troubleshooting machining issues, maintaining a clean and safe workspace, and working closely with other shop staff to meet production timelines and customer needs. The Machinist is expected to follow all safety standards, quality procedures, and company guidelines while contributing to continuous improvement in the shop.

Qualifications

Turn on, program and operate the 4 CNC machines that we currently have:

  • GM Flex CNC 5’ x 20’
  • 1026 Milltronics Lathe
  • Haas SL 30 Lathe
  • Haas VF 7/50 Mill
  • Conversational and M code programming
  • BobCAD-CAM machining software

These are the 5 main CNC machines used for fabricating our large carbon steel parts for the Sugar Beet industry.

This will require finding the current programs from within the database listed by part number, on each machine, follow the set-up procedure and logic of the tool path.

Be able to adjust, write programs for machining new parts, adjust current programs for modified parts.

Be able to set up the hold down clamps and jigs for each part being made.

Be able to log in and run accurate time tracking on that part order.

Be able to sharpen your tooling or know when to change out the carbides to stay within part quality specifications.

  • Demonstrated experience operating manual and/or CNC machining equipment, including setup, operation, and basic maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions, and convert them into precise machined parts.
  • Strong measurement and inspection skills using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision tools to verify tolerances.
  • Solid understanding of machining processes, materials, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, and shop math.
  • Commitment to safety, with knowledge of shop safety practices, proper PPE use, and safe material handling.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing issues and adjusting machine settings.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship in machining or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in metal fabrication, welding, or industrial maintenance is a plus.
  • Reliable attendance and readiness to perform physical tasks such as standing for extended periods and lifting moderate weights.
