Job Overview
We are a proud small business seeking a dependable and customer focused Deli Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will help ensure the deli department operates efficiently while providing excellent customer service and maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness. Responsibilities include preparing and serving deli products such as meats, cheeses, salads, and sandwiches, assisting customers with product selections, and supporting daily deli operations.
Duties
- Slice, weigh, package, and prepare deli products according to customer requests and company standards
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service by assisting with product selection and answering questions about deli offerings
- Follow portion and presentation standards when preparing and packaging deli items
- Monitor and record temperatures for hot and cold food storage compliance
- Monitor inventory levels, restock supplies, rotate products for freshness, and help minimize waste
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area, including equipment, counters, and food preparation spaces
- Follow all food safety guidelines, sanitation procedures, and company policies
- Work collaboratively with team members to support smooth daily operations
- Accurately label products with pricing and product information
Requirements
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and food safety standards
- Strong customer service and communication skills with a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Basic knowledge of food handling, sanitation, and safety practices preferred
- Ability to safely operate deli equipment including slicers, knives, and scales
- Previous deli, food service, restaurant, or retail experience is a plus, but not required
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds in a retail or grocery environment
Pay: $16.94 - $20.00 per hour
