Job Title: Ophthalmology Technician
Reports to: Manager
Date: 10/29/25
Function: Assist physicians and team members with the highest quality of patient care and service in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. Technical skills including refraction and pre-operative testing.
Administrative Duties:
● Coordinate screenings, pre-op exams and surgeries.
● Discuss refractive surgery procedure(s) and answer questions for the patient.
● Perform other administrative technical duties as assigned.

Technical Duties:
● Manifest Refractions and experience with Ophthalmology Testing for Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
● Perform preliminary and post-operative exams,
● Responsible for adherence to OSHA and JHACPO standards in every aspect of daily routine involving patient care.
● Responsible for keeping abreast of developments in the field of ophthalmology/refractive surgery as it relates to job function.
Communication:
Requires a high level of communication skills and interaction with physicians, administrators, technicians, and other administration staff. This candidate must be well spoken, presentable, and very personable.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years experience as an ophthalmic technician, preferably 2-3 years with a Lasik setting. Must be able to refract independently of the physician. Prior experience in a refractive surgery practice plus. Sales/Marketing background desirable. Excellent working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel. Experience with Nextech EMR and MD Prospects data capture software. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and adhere to deadlines.
Problem Solving:
Tact and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with physicians, patients, visitors and various ophthalmic practice personnel on a regular basis to answer questions, schedule testing, provide direction and solve problems as they arise. Must be able to work independently. The ability to maintain confidentiality with regards to patient information and financial information as well as other areas of job assignment is required (Hippa compliant). The desired candidate must be industrious, punctual and maintain an excellent attendance record.
