This is a Full-Time, limited term (approx. 6 month) position.

KQED helps educators to create learning environments that promote media literacy, student voice, civic engagement, creative expression, and inquiry-based learning using digital media, with a focus on middle and high school students and educators.

The Program Manager is a science pedagogy and content expert who possesses extensive knowledge of current education trends and proven expertise in the intersections of media literacy education with STEM curricula. They support the technology and media demands placed on modern STEM classrooms primarily through:
  • Leading face-to-face, blended, and online professional learning experiences to support media literacy skill development for educators.
  • Supporting educators in the effective use of public media content for teaching and learning.
  • Contributing to the creation of curriculum and other classroom resources designed to encourage media literacy skill development for students through media making.
This position will represent KQED in the field of teacher professional learning - supporting the advancement of media literacy education for educators and the technology and instructional knowledge required to lead modern learning environments.

KQED provide citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media.   We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas.

This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

 

Salary Information: $80,969- $101200 Annually

Essential Functions:

  • Create standards-based curriculum and resources designed to promote media literacy skill development in STEM classrooms:
    • Lead creation of lesson plans for KQED digital series Deep Look, and other KQED Media, for inclusion on PBS Learning Media.
    • Contribute to the creation of instructional resources for KQED Youth Media Challenges.
  • Support online professional learning efforts promoting the acquisition of media literacy educator competencies for STEM educators:
    • Provide instruction and feedback on assignments received through KQED Teach online professional learning courses
    • Contribute to the planning and creation of instructional media content for professional learning courses, webinars and/or workshops.
    • Deliver online and face to face workshops to support teachers and their classrooms in participating in KQED Youth Media Challenges.
  • Review and evaluate KQED Youth Media Challenge submissions.
  • Curate and share select Youth Media Challenge submissions with our public media station partners.
  • Provide expertise on national and state standards, current classroom practices, and national education policies and trends to inform department strategy and content creation.
  • Support the ongoing development and maintenance of partnerships related to the KQED Youth Media Challenge.
  • Contribute to the creation of marketing content to increase the use of and engagement with KQED Education products.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 Knowledge/Experience Required
  1. Demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary curriculum development aligned to Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.
  2. Experience designing and delivering a variety of professional development experiences for educators.
  3. Experience delivering live professional learning through video conferencing, webinars, or other online tools as well as in person.
  4. Experience working and managing relationships with external partners.
  5. Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills and follow-through capabilities.
  6. Ability to wear multiple hats and contribute effectively to multiple and concurrent department projects. 
  7. The ability to work effectively with a wide variety of colleagues and educational partners.
  8. A strong commitment to educational equity.
Knowledge/Experience Desired
  1. Teaching credential and/or master’s degree in science or engineering education or related field.
  2. Demonstrated success integrating media making (e.g., audio, video, and graphic production) and media-based learning into secondary STEM learning environments.
  3. Experience employing student-created media as part of a formal assessment of student learning, especially in science classrooms.
  4. Experience employing data for program evaluation and improvement.
  5. Skilled in new and emerging technologies, social media platforms, and more - especially concerning their application in an educational setting.
  6. Experience producing audio or video content to support student learning.

Salary : $80,969 - $101,200
