KPMG is currently seeking a Manager, Harness Engineer to join our Clients, Technology & Innovation organization.
Responsibilities:
- Own the technical vision and end-to-end architecture for the agent harness, prioritizing running production systems over static design diagrams
- Stay deeply hands-on by writing, reviewing, and shipping high-quality production code weekly while mentoring engineers through pair programming
- Own real production engineering, focusing on system hardening, scalability, reliability, and telemetry instrumentation (token consumption, latency, tool failure rates) across all agent steps
- Build and optimize the core agent loop (orchestration, state management, termination) and the tool layer (schemas, argument validation, error recovery)
- Engineer robust context pipelines (retrieval, prompt assembly, memory) and end-to-end evaluation infrastructure (golden datasets, trace-based scoring, CI regression suites)
- Facilitate collaborative sessions with stakeholders from engineers to the C-suite, delivering scalable, quantified outcomes in agile two-to-six-week cycles
- Act with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to uphold KPMG's respectful and courteous work environment
- Minimum seven years of recent, hands-on experience shipping secure, end-to-end production software, with deep expertise in modern languages (Python, Go, Rust, or Java) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud (GCP))
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a STEM field or ten years of relevant practical experience
- Genuine fluency with modern AI harnesses, frontier models, and agentic frameworks (for example, Claude Code, Cursor, MCP, or comparable standards), paired with open-source contributions
- Clear mental model and hands-on experience designing orchestration, context management, tool integration, and evaluation systems, specifically knowing where they fail in production
- Proven technical architecture ownership of production AI systems combined with the presence to communicate complex technical concepts to skeptical engineers and impatient C-suite executives (CIO, CISO, CFO)
- Results-driven product mindset, comfortable with ambiguity and biased toward shipping (founder, early-stage startup, or enterprise deployment experience is a strong plus); strong portfolio (GitHub or system walk-through) demonstrating shipped systems
- Ability to travel domestically as needed
