Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Mainframe Assembler Developer to support and enhance a mission-critical legacy application written in IBM z/OS assembler language. This role requires a self-sufficient engineer capable of independently analyzing, maintaining, and improving high-volume, high-availability batch processing systems in a regulated financial services environment.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise across core mainframe technologies, experience supporting check/image item processing or payment platforms, and strong familiarity with parallel sysplex environments (LPAR-based architectures).

Required Qualifications
- 8 years of experience in IBM Mainframe application development and production support
Strong hands-on expertise in:
- Assembler (HLASM) programming
- JCL development and troubleshooting
- GDGs and batch processing
- Proven experience with:
- Connect:Direct (NDM)
- ISPW (or equivalent change management tools)
- CA7 scheduling
- TSO / ISPF environment
- GitHub CoPilot
Demonstrated experience supporting:
- High-volume financial transaction systems
- Production batch environments with strict SLAs and recovery requirements
- Experience working in high-availability environments, including:
- Sysplex architectures
- Multiple LPARs and workload distribution
Solid understanding of:
- Mainframe datasets, VSAM, and utilities
- Production support processes and incident management
- Experience using ServiceNow and/or Remedy
Proven ability to:
- Work independently in loosely documented legacy environments
- Analyze complex assembler codebases
- Diagnose and resolve critical production issues quickly
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in financial services or banking environments
Prior experience with:
- Check processing, image item processing, or payment processing platforms
- Demonstrated experience supporting:
- High-volume, high-throughput transaction systems
- Mission-critical applications requiring near-continuous availability
Familiarity with:
- SMP/E for system maintenance and upgrades
- SAR (System Activity Reporter / reporting tools)
Experience supporting assembler applications during:
- Platform upgrades
- Macro or compatibility changes
