Civil Design Engineer

KPFF Inc. is seeking a Civil Design Engineer for its Seattle, WA office.

Job Duties: Work on a variety of civil engineering projects through planning, design, permitting and construction under the supervision of licensed senior engineers, with a focus on heavy civil, site utilities, industrial/contaminated sites and waterfront infrastructure including port terminal redevelopments, shipyards, marinas, contaminated marine properties and utility infrastructure upgrades. Produce design and construction drawings incorporating information from project lead, research data, and other consultants for various engineering project types including land development grading/earthwork, demolition, utility, drainage, and paving plans. Construction support, cost estimating, and coordination with geotechnical and environmental engineers on contaminated sites. Conduct site visits and assist with documenting findings. Perform analysis and modeling of storm, water, and sewer systems. Telecommuting permitted 2 days/week.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, plus two years of experience in each of the following:

• Site land development and civil utility design, engineering analysis and drawing production, including writing and reviewing specifications, producing design calculations, records research of existing conditions, preparing of permit applications, preparing Basis of Design reports, and performing quality control reviews.

• Analyzing stormwater, hydrology and hydraulic systems including modeling using HydroCAD or similar programs.

• Analyzing quantities of excavation and feasibility of slopes/grade alternatives and modifying site design according to site conditions.

• Developing estimates of probable cost for construction, including development of material quantities.

• AutoCAD, Civil3D software for civil engineering design drawing production and utility/earthwork quantities.

• GIS (Geographic Information System) for existing utility review utilizing ArcGIS and using that as input for civil design drawing production.

• Clean-up and land development on contaminated/hazardous sites, with an understanding of Phase 1 Environmental Assessment Reports.

• Geotechnical work and coordination, with an understanding of soil characterization, groundwater/surface water data and field drilling/exploration reports.

• Construction support services for civil engineering design projects for compliance with construction documents, including experience with quality assurance site observations.

Salary range: $100,200 - $113,000.
