Join our dynamic team as an Assistant Superintendent - Highway and play a pivotal role in leading road projects from inception to completion. This position offers the opportunity to oversee daily operations, coordinate teams, and ensure projects are delivered safely and on time.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct assigned personnel, including interviewing and making hiring recommendations.
- Monitor and approve daily timecards and personal leave for assigned personnel.
- Supervise daily construction activities on projects, ensuring adherence to project plans, specifications, and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to facilitate smooth workflow and timely delivery of project milestones.
- Review construction drawings and technical documents to interpret specifications and ensure accurate implementation on-site.
- Manage crews effectively by assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Conduct quality control inspections to verify work meets design standards and contractual requirements; address any deficiencies promptly.
- Enforce OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations and federal construction safety standards to maintain a safe work environment for all personnel.
- Lead construction site safety meetings; ensure all team members are trained on safety protocols including OSHA standards and heavy equipment operation.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or HSE with five (5) years of proven experience in road construction and maintenance. Bachelor's degree in preferred.
- Possession of and ability to maintain a Class A certification for IDEM.
- Must be ERC certified from Federal Highway Administration to apply for funding.
- Demonstrated ability supervising construction crews effectively while maintaining high safety standards aligned with OSHA regulations.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state construction safety regulations as they pertain to road projects; experience implementing safety programs onsite.
- Skilled in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications for complex road projects.
- Familiarity with construction estimating techniques including budgeting for materials, labor costs, and equipment usage.
- Effective managerial communication skills with the ability to lead teams confidently while liaising with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Possession of valid driver's license and demonstrated safety record.
Pay: From $85,222.00 per year
