Position Overview
We are seeking a senior Engineer to support a range of initiatives across multiple business units. This newly created role aligns with the company’s strategic focus on advancing process automation, including inspection systems, material handling, and packaging operations.
The individual in this role will evaluate innovative concepts, conduct technical research, and develop engineered solutions that can be successfully implemented on the production floor in a cost-efficient manner.
Success in this position requires strong engineering fundamentals, hands-on process design experience, and the ability to balance technical expertise with sound business judgment. The role demands effective communication, initiative, and a forward-thinking mindset. The Senior Engineer will operate with a high degree of independence, receiving limited oversight from senior leadership, while also contributing to ongoing process improvements through mechanical and technical support.
This role also requires managing multiple priorities, responding promptly to internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring that systems are properly tested and validated. Additionally, the engineer will develop project scopes, timelines, vendor evaluations, and execution strategies for key process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research and develop presentations on automation initiatives for senior leadership and executive stakeholders
- Define system requirements, maintenance strategies, and training needs in collaboration with production teams
- Support leadership in evaluating the financial viability and ROI of automation investments, including inspection, conveyance, packaging, and warehouse systems
- Partner with Maintenance and Production teams to identify long-term equipment and process improvement opportunities
- Update and maintain engineering drawings, ensuring accuracy and proper revision control
- Serve as a technical liaison for both internal teams and external partners regarding system performance and troubleshooting
- Lead and coordinate project timelines, deliverables, and cross-functional activities
- Review and manage vendor-supplied engineering documentation to ensure compliance and quality standards
- Design and implement solutions to address operational challenges and improve efficiency
- Develop and standardize engineering specifications for equipment and product lines
- Ensure electrical schematics and system documentation are accurate, up-to-date, and accessible
- Travel to other facilities as required to support automation and process improvement projects
- Safeguard confidential information related to proprietary systems, R&D, and emerging technologies
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Civil, or related discipline)
- Approximately 3–8 years of relevant engineering experience
- Solid understanding of engineering principles, methods, and industry practices
- Experience working with CAD/CAM software and creating technical designs
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong knowledge of automation systems, including conveyors, PLCs, motors, gearboxes, and control systems
- Familiarity with metallurgical concepts and materials applications
- Demonstrated hands-on technical aptitude and problem-solving ability
- Experience managing projects and coordinating multiple workstreams
- Ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical systems and spatial layouts
- Strong interest in process optimization and automation technologies
- Patience and persistence in executing long-term projects with evolving outcomes
