The Opportunity
A private investment platform with approximately $3B in AUM, investing across multiple funds and ~1,000 underlying portfolio companies, is seeking a Director of Portfolio Finance to sit directly on the Investment Team.
This is a newly created role designed to enhance the rigor, validation, and analytical depth of portfolio and fund-level financial reporting. The position will serve as a key finance partner to the investment team, helping to influence investment decisions through independent financial analysis and portfolio insights.
The role offers a highly entrepreneurial environment, with the opportunity to build out portfolio monitoring infrastructure from the ground up and elevate financial oversight beyond existing third-party reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Monitoring & Financial Oversight
- Build and enhance a structured portfolio monitoring framework across funds and underlying investments
- Validate and challenge financial data received from external providers and General Partners
- Analyze and track key financial metrics including revenue, EBITDA, and valuations
- Develop quarterly reporting packages, portfolio reviews, and investment-level insights
- Establish KPIs to improve transparency and comparability across investments
- Serve as the central point of contact for portfolio financial data integrity
Financial Diligence & Analysis
- Support buy-side financial diligence across funds and portfolio companies
- Analyze financial statements, operating performance, and underlying drivers
- Assess valuation methodologies and identify potential risks or inconsistencies
- Provide independent financial perspectives to support investment decision-making
Infrastructure & Build-Out
- Design and implement scalable portfolio monitoring tools and dashboards
- Improve reporting processes and overall financial infrastructure
- Build and lead a team over time as the platform continues to grow
- Elevate financial rigor beyond current administrator-led reporting
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required); advanced degree a plus
- CPA strongly preferred
- ~10–12 years of relevant experience
- Strong foundation in quality of earnings, valuation, and financial analysis
- Experience within private equity, transaction advisory, or portfolio finance environments
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with senior stakeholders
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, analytical, and investment-driven environment
