Korn Ferry is conducting a search on behalf of a rapidly growing commercial general contractor known for delivering high-quality construction projects across Tennessee and the Southeast. The company has achieved strong year-over-year growth and is expanding into new markets and states. Its work includes ground-up construction and renovation projects ranging from $1 million to more than $5 million, supported by a technology-driven approach to project management and client communication.
Position
The Director of Business Development will serve as the executive in charge of all business development efforts within the region. The Director of Business Development shall have responsibility to formulate and implement, in collaboration with the executive leadership team, business development plans and strategies consistent with the mission and vision of the Company.
This senior leader will have/leverage their preexisting well-established professional network and will be capable of generating new project opportunities with negotiated and lump-sum work.
Responsibilities
- Secure new profitable work, consistent with company risk management standards, to ensure the company’s sustainability and growth.
- Develop, in collaboration with the executive leadership team, short-term and long-term business plans of the company consistent with the overall company growth and earnings objectives. Develop company differentiators and brand identity and strategies to reinforce and publicize the firm.
- Identify and pursue the target markets in which new work will be developed.
- Cultivate relationships with executives, developers, and design professionals to secure negotiated contracts and repeat work.
- Collaborate with estimating and operations teams to develop competitive proposals and strategic pursuits.
- Develop individual strategies for each pursuit and lead the pursuit effort coordinating the activities of staff involved. Seek to understand, through questioning and research, each prospective client’s objectives, and concerns regarding each pursuit.
- Report to the CEO and additional leadership figures at regular board meetings on the status of all business development efforts.
- Represent Company at key industry events, associations, and client meetings.
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of Business Development, Operations, or Management experience.
- Good knowledge of the larger design firms and regional contractors who have operations in the region.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the drive and availability to thrive in a fast-growth environment.
- Experience in and knowledge of construction techniques, contract forms and risks, and development process and challenges.
- Experience in marketing, sales, estimating, employee relations and general business management.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated organizational, leadership, interpersonal and communications skills.
- Must be proficient in use of MS Word, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Proficiency with MS Project and business development/CMS software is beneficial.
