Position overview:
The Controller will lead the financial and accounting operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Reporting to the owner of the business, the Controller will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions, AP / AR, invoicing, collections, and internal controls. This position requires a detail-oriented professional comfortable handling the full-accounting cycle with a part-time staff accountant for assistance, while corresponding with external tax and audit firms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of the company’s accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, inventory accounting, and payroll, ensuring timely and accurate recording of financial transactions.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage the budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with leadership to develop annual operating budgets and monitor performance against budgeting targets.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls and procedures to safeguard company assets, mitigate financial risks, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate the annual external audit and tax preparation process, liaising with external auditors, tax consultants, and legal advisors as needed.
- Manage relationships with banking partners, insurance providers, and other external stakeholders, ensuring timely compliance with loan covenants, insurance requirements, and regulatory filings.
- Support on-boarding of new employees related to 401k and healthcare benefits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in accounting.
- Prior experience in the construction or manufacturing industry is preferred
- Hands-on, results-oriented approach with a focus on driving efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
