Position Overview
Korn Ferry has partnered with a well-established and growing construction organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its finance leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with a strong public accounting foundation and hands-on construction industry experience to play a key role in financial reporting, internal controls, and the monthly close process.
Reporting directly to executive finance leadership, the Assistant Controller will help oversee accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, improve processes and internal controls, and provide meaningful financial analysis to support business decisions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support finance leadership with all accounting and financial reporting activities, including the timely preparation of monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Assist in managing the monthly close process, including reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare and review reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies.
- Develop, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal control documentation.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors by preparing schedules and supporting audit requests.
- Oversee banking activities, including the preparation and release of approved payment files.
- Monitor accounting issues, identify process improvements, and recommend solutions that enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.
- Partner with Accounting, Finance, and Operations teams to support project financial performance and reporting.
- Assist with special projects, financial analyses, and other initiatives as assigned by senior finance leadership.
- Travel between New Jersey and New York offices as business needs require.
- Maintain regular, reliable on-site attendance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA or CPA eligibility strongly preferred.
- Required: Public accounting experience (Big Four or regional public accounting firm experience preferred), providing a strong technical accounting foundation.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and financial modeling.
- Experience working with ERP systems; experience with Vista Viewpoint is a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across Finance, Accounting, and Operations.
- Demonstrated ability to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and support a growing organization.
