What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classer position at Koppers Utility and Industrial Products?
Inspects, tests, sorts, samples, and weighs raw materials for defects, wear, and deviations from specifications. May use precision measuring instruments and complex test equipment.
- Discusses inspection results with those responsible for products and recommends necessary corrective actions.
- Inspects, tests, or measures materials for conformance to specifications.
- Notifies supervisors and other personnel of production problems and assists in identifying and correcting these problems.
- Discards or rejects products, materials, or equipment not meeting specifications.
- Marks items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status.
- Records inspection or test data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, or moisture content, and quantities inspected or graded.
- Analyzes and interprets blueprints, data, manuals, and other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment and certification methods, formulas, and measuring instruments required.
- Observes and monitors production operations and equipment to ensure conformance to specifications and make or order necessary process or assembly adjustments.
- Writes test or inspection reports describing results, recommendations, or needed repairs.
- Collects or selects samples for testing or for use as models.
- Grades, classifies, or sorts products according to sizes, weights, colors, or other specifications.
- Measures dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
- Reads dials or meters to verify that equipment is functioning at specified levels.
- Compares colors, shapes, textures, or grades of products or materials with color charts, templates, or samples to verify conformance to standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Candidate Qualifications/ Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Safety, health, and environmental awareness
- Willing to be hands on with physical production
- Ability to work overtime
- Basic math skills (addition, subtractions)
- Must be able to work in all outside weather conditions (wet, hot, cold)
- Must be able to lift up to 50Ib
