Adult Misdemeanor Probation Director


We’re looking for a motivated and skilled Adult Misdemeanor Probation Director to lead and manage the county's Adult Probation program. This is a key leadership role, reporting directly to the Board of County Commissioners and the Administrative District Judge, where you’ll oversee a variety of professional, managerial, and administrative responsibilities.


As the Director, you will ensure that our probation services meet state standards while promoting community protection, offender accountability, and competency development. You will also be at the forefront of grant management, resource development, and collaborative efforts with community partners dedicated to enhancing public safety and offender rehabilitation.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the department in strategic planning, personnel management, and policy development to ensure the successful delivery of probation services and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Oversee the department’s budget, including grant-funded programs, and manage service contracts aimed at enhancing probation services.
  • Act as the liaison with community organizations, focusing on adult offender development, victim services, and treatment needs of adult misdemeanor populations.
  • Represent the court during "preliminary inquiry" staffing, develop key contacts involved in adult proceedings, and mediate between the court and offenders to ensure compliance with restitution orders.
  • Direct and manage departmental programs such as adult supervision, community service, and restitution programs, ensuring the successful reintegration of offenders into society.
  • Lead, supervise, and manage all full-time, part-time, and contracted staff, fostering a productive and supportive team environment.

  • You have extensive understanding of national, state, and local adult probation laws, issues, and best practices.
  • You have specialized expertise in community organizing, adult corrections, and the dynamics of the adult misdemeanor court process.
  • You are experienced in:
    • Social casework practices and the court system.
    • Criminal laws related to offenders and probation laws.
    • Psychotropic medications, drug testing, HIPAA, and Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) as applied to probation.
    • Special populations including sex offenders, mental health offenders, gangs, and culturally diverse groups.
  • Ability to Analyze: Evaluate psychological, psychiatric, drug/alcohol evaluations, and case management plans, ensuring the development of appropriate and actionable case plans.


Do You Have What It Takes?

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in social services, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years related experience, with 2 years in a supervisory capacity, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Certifications:
    • Certification through the Adult Misdemeanor Probation Officer POST Academy (preferred).
    • You must obtain POST certification within 12 months of hire.
    • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and CPR/First Aid certification required.
    • You must pass POST firearms training and meet department standards.
    • Ability to obtain Advanced POST Certification within 6 years of employment.
