Overview
Under the direction of the Assistant County Engineer/County Engineer, this position is responsible for performing the
technical civil engineering operations and functions Involved in the design of highway projects by the County Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Performs technical civil engineering duties and operations functions involved in the design of highway
- projects.
- Prepares federal. state, and county projects by conducting pre-design inspection and surveying, drafting
- plans and specifications in order for highway construction maintenance to be performed by the
- contractor or highway department.
- Produces storm water pollution prevention plans, conducts field work and compiles data to determine
- quantities required for project completion with mandated specifications on assigned projects and to
- assure materials test and meet project and MnDOT requirements.
- Monitors activity of contractors to ensure compliance.
- Collects preliminary survey work.
- Drafts plans and specifications for highway construction maintenance using CAAD software.
- Compile documents and collect data by doing various studies to ensure that the County receives proper
- funding for contractor payments. Documents project progress.
- Verifies acceptance of project change orders.
- Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as required.
Education: Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in related field and zero to two (0-2) years of civil
engineering or related experience.
Requirements:
Knowledge of the fundamental principles/concepts of civil engineering and surveying.
A fundamental understanding used in engineering design, drafting and documentation.
Knowledge of construction material testing and analysis procedures for aggregate, concrete and bituminous
materials.
Skilled in project management.
Skilled at preparing and presenting technical engineering and narrative reports.
Valid Minnesota Driver’s License or evidence of mobility.
Experience using CAAD software.
Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Pay: $26.02 - $34.59 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
