Designer / Drafter
Minneapolis, MN | Contract to Hire | $25 - $32/hour
Summary
Seeking a detail-oriented Designer/Drafter to support the development of custom-fabricated components and structural assemblies, including steel brackets and related systems. This role will create accurate drawings and models using CAD software, working closely with engineering and project teams to translate concepts, sketches, and markups into production-ready documentation.
This position is well suited for an architectural or mechanical drafter with strong attention to detail and interest in custom design work.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed drawings and models using AutoCAD (75%) and SolidWorks (25%)
- Interpret and develop drawings from sketches, redlines, and engineering markups
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure design intent is fully captured
- Produce general arrangement drawings for the client and permitting approvals
- Generate shop drawings for custom fabricated components, including steel brackets and assemblies
- Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) for parts and assemblies
- Apply strong layout, dimensioning, and detailing practices
- Follow established drawing standards and numbering systems
- Ensure projects are completed on time and meet quality expectations
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Drafting, Design Technology, Mechanical Design, Architectural Drafting, or related field
- 2 years of drafting/design experience (architectural or mechanical backgrounds both considered)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (primary) and SolidWorks (secondary)
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Understanding of fabricated parts, assemblies, and structural components
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
