What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Material Planner position at Kongsberg Automotive?
Our Off-Highway business segment is a leading supplier in designing and manufacturing mechatronic assemblies, pedals, steering columns, and Powersports cables for the agricultural, construction, and Powersports markets. We are looking for a Materials Planner to support our Willis Operations.
The Material Planner’s role is to guarantee that materials are ordered of the right quality at the right time, ensuring 100% on-time delivery and that materials are procured against the right contractual standard price. The Material Planner is expected to execute planning and scheduling activities for assigned part numbers using advanced planning systems. Coordinate input on material shortages and be responsible for a smooth production process.
Responsibilities
- Place materials purchase orders/contracts in-line with supplier lead times to meet the factory production plan requirements in the SAP system.
- Ensure the period of material cover is sufficient (usually 2/4 weeks excluding supplier lead-time) while maintaining target inventory levels and optimal supplier price.
- Maintain target stock levels within the factory.
- Arrange delivery of materials with the supplier to the factory and, where necessary resolve any logistics issues
- Principal point of contact for the supplier about business for the factory
- Liaise with suppliers on an ongoing basis to reserve production capacity (by providing material forecasts) to meet future supply requirements
- Resolve supplier-invoicing issues by working with the Factory Finance team.
- Highlight serious supplier issues and work with the management team to resolve issues quickly and with minimal impact on the business.
- Maintenance of the MPR system for all associated supplier demand needs
- Generation of vendor schedules in line with business demands – including interrogation of demand information
- Pro-Active expediting of materials for the relevant location
- Support and definition of requirements for the supply chain need for contract negotiations.
- Effective management of inventory (improvement of working capital) using pre-defined tools – i.e. Consignment Stock, Kanban, VMI etc.
- Reporting and liaising with Procurement Team on local SD/KPI action plans.
Requirements
- BS Degree and/or a minimum of 5 years’ experience working with Material management or logistic
- SAP experience
- Understanding of a material requirement pegging / planning system (MRP)
- A high attention to detail
- Able to prioritize with an appreciation of the meaning of “urgency.”
- Experience of procurement, dealing with direct material into manufacturing operations
- Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office / SAP
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
Desirable
- Automotive experience within a manufacturing facility
