Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Machine Shop Manager to oversee daily operations within our manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of machining processes, and proficiency in various manufacturing technologies. This role is pivotal in ensuring the production of high-quality components through effective management of machine shop activities, team coordination, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Duties

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of machinists, fabricators, and technicians to meet production goals.
  • Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, and other machining equipment.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications to ensure accurate manufacturing.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of CNC programming personnel; troubleshoot programming issues.
  • Provide guidance on labor hour estimations and best manufacturing practices
  • Conduct quality control inspections utilizing calipers, micrometers, precision measuring instruments, and other tools to verify dimensional accuracy.
  • Ensure proper use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment (including MIG welding), and fabrication tools for assembly and repair tasks.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Maintain safety standards by enforcing proper use of PPE and safe operating procedures; conduct safety training sessions.
  • Manage inventory of tooling, fixtures, and raw materials; coordinate with warehouse personnel for timely material supply.
  • Develop work schedules, assign tasks, and monitor team performance to meet production deadlines.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on CNC programming, tooling design, and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with procurement team leader and final assembly department leaders to ensure raw materials and finished components are received and delivered according to schedule.
  • Establish and maintain documentation related to machine maintenance logs, quality reports, and process records.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing a machine shop or manufacturing environment with strong leadership capabilities.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading, GD&T principles, CNC programming (including CNC milling machines and CNC lathes), and CAM programming.
  • Familiar in welding techniques such as MIG welding; familiar with fabrication processes involving hand tools and power tools.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge related to machining operations, tooling selection, and fabrication methods.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software for design review and tooling development.
  • Ability to operate forklifts safely; warehouse experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures using calipers, micrometers, micrometer gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Basic math skills necessary for precision measurements and calculations during machining processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relevant certifications or training in manufacturing technology or machining are preferred. This position offers an opportunity for a dedicated professional to lead a dynamic team within a thriving manufacturing operation while ensuring excellence in production quality and efficiency.

Pay: From $72,000.00 per year
