The Mechanic II roleis an advanced industrial mechanic responsible for rebuilding, inspecting, repairing, and testing electric mining shovel components and other heavy mining equipment assemblies. This is a component rebuild role in a mining repair shop, not an automotive mechanic position.
The role focuses primarily on P&H electric rope shovel components, including transmissions, gear cases, crowd and swing assemblies, gearing, bearings, brakes, and related systems. The Mechanic IV independently performs complex rebuilds, troubleshooting, precision assembly, and inspection while supporting repair quality, safety, reliability, and accurate documentation.

- Rebuild, inspect, assemble, and test electric shovel and heavy mining components.
- Diagnose wear, damage, and mechanical, hydraulic, or lubrication issues
- Interpret engineering drawings, OEM manuals, and repair specifications
- Perform precision measurements, fit-up, alignment, and component installation
- Determine component repair, reuse, machining, or replacement requirements
- Install bearings, seals, gears, shafts, bushings, and related components
- Coordinate machining, welding, inspection, and QA/QC activities
- Repair and test HVAC and cab pressurization systems when qualified
- Safely perform rigging, lifting, welding, fabrication, and component handling
- Protect precision and high-value components throughout the rebuild process
- Complete inspection reports, repair records, and SAP documentation accurately.
- Follow approved safety, quality, and repair procedures throughout all work
- Advanced experience rebuilding, overhauling, and assembling heavy mining components.
- Strong knowledge of electric rope shovel systems, including hoist, crowd, swing, and propel systems.
- Experience with transmissions, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, brakes, seals, and lubrication systems.
- Ability to identify wear, damage, misalignment, overheating, and common component failures.
- Proficient with precision measuring and inspection tools.
- Ability to calculate and verify clearances, preload, endplay, backlash, alignment, and tolerances.
- Strong ability to read engineering drawings, OEM documentation, and repair specifications.
- Advanced troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, fit-up, and assembly issues.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, lubrication systems, metallurgy, and component repair practices.
- Knowledge of mobile equipment HVAC systems; refrigerant certification required or ability to obtain.
- Experience with welding, fabrication, rigging, lifting, and large-component handling.
- Ability to independently complete complex rebuilds while maintaining accurate technical and repair documentation
