Assistant Director of Business/Deputy Treasurer

Length of Contract: 12.00 months
Salary: Commensurate with training and experience
Major Responsibilities:
- Assist with the development, monitoring, and administration of the corporation’s annual budget.
- Prepare financial reports, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation for administration, the Board of School Trustees, and state agencies.
- Prepares AFR, Form 9, tax filings and federal reports
- Prepares and distributes 1099 and W2s, submits the information to the appropriate federal agencies, and provides primary communication with the IRS.
- Submits monthly and annual reports in Gateway for the ECAs and the corporation.
- Oversees building treasurers and extra-curricular accounts to ensure compliance with SBOA.
- Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with Indiana Department of Education, State Board of Accounts, and other applicable regulations.
- Assist with fund management, cash flow analysis, investments, and bank reconciliations.
- Process and monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and purchasing activities.
- Assist in annual audits and coordinate responses to auditor requests.
- Assist with grant accounting, reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of required state and federal financial reports.
- Collaborate with building administrators and department directors regarding budget development and financial procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and personnel information.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, regulations, board policies, and procedures related to purchasing, bidding, and financial management.
- Participate in IASBO professional development, regional meetings, and state conferences.
- Assist in the development of long-range financial planning and budget projections.
- Support and participate in staff training and professional learning opportunities as appropriate.
- Assist in the supervision, support, and evaluate assigned business office personnel.
- Prepare requested financial documents and reports in an organized and timely manner.
- Exercise sound judgment and independent decision-making consistent with established policies and procedures.
- Respond promptly to financial inquiries and information requests from stakeholders.
- Serve as Deputy Treasurer and perform Treasurer responsibilities in the Treasurer’s absence in accordance with Indiana law and State Board of Accounts requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Direct of Business and the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field required, or Administrator License.
- Experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, or operational management within a business, educational, or governmental setting preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly convey complex financial information to diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of current educational trends, research, and evidence-based practices impacting school finance and operations.
- Proven problem-solving skills, including the ability to define issues, gather and analyze relevant data, and develop actionable plans.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in supervision, program development, staff development, and team management.
- Proven ability to prepare synthesized financial reporting from raw data.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move throughout district offices, school buildings, and other district facilities to attend meetings, conduct site visits, and perform supervisory and administrative duties.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate computers, calculators, financial software systems, office equipment, and other technology necessary for business and fiscal operations.
- Visual and auditory ability to review financial records, budgets, reports, contracts, and other documents, as well as communicate effectively with staff, vendors, auditors, and members of the public.
- Ability to respond promptly to operational, financial, or emergency situations requiring movement between offices, departments, or district facilities.
- Ability to perform light physical activities, including bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting or carrying files, records, office supplies, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds as required in the performance of assigned duties.
