What are the responsibilities and job description for the Treatment Plant Operator position at Kodiak Island Borough?
This is the second level in
a three level Water Operations series.
Incumbents are
responsible for operating the leachate treatment plant and related equipment, which may include operating and maintaining equipment including required testing, checking, cleaning and controlling of chemical levels and other items to assure safe and proper treatment of leachate.
This
class

depending on the
needs of the
department.
Performs
journey
level
operation
and
maintenance
activities
at
the
leachate treatment plant(s).
Monitors and operates technologically complex plant control systems and process instrumentation.
Monitors
the
proper
operation
of
pumps,
blowers,
chemical
equipment
and controls of the treatment plant.
Compiles
information
for reports
for regulatory
agencies
by recording
readings and test results.
Maintains
and
repairs
treatment
plant
facilities
and equipment
and documents and maintains logbooks on service and maintenance activities.
Conducts
laboratory
tests and maintains
thorough
and accurate records
of test
results.
Operates a variety of equipment, including belt press, forklift, screens, chemical manufacturing and feed systems, pump stations, computer control systems, and other applicable equipment.
May serve
as a back-up
and assists
landfill staff as needed in performing
Baler Operator activities.
Performs
Other
duties of
a
similar
nature
and
level
as
assigned.
TRAINING
AND
Experience
High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of water/wastewater treatment system operations and maintenance experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
