Kodiak is hiring a Dimensional Inspector for a piping fabrication operation in Walker, Louisiana. You’ll verify that every fabricated pipe spool matches the approved drawings for dimensions, tolerances, orientation, and identification before it moves to the next fabrication step or ships to the field.

This is a strong next move for an experienced pipefitter or fabricator who reads spool drawings well and knows what a bad fit-up looks like before it becomes a field problem. Skilled fitters and fabricators may qualify directly.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect pipe spools, fittings, flanges, branches, and supports against approved isometrics, spool sheets, and project specifications.
• Verify overall dimensions, center-to-center and face-to-face measurements, end preps, offsets, angles, elevations, branch locations, and component orientation.
• Confirm flange rotation, bolt-hole orientation, slope, takeoffs, and match points before release or shipment.
• Measure with tapes, squares, levels, inclinometers, calipers, straightedges, and templates, and check tool condition and calibration status when required.
• Match spool tags, line numbers, weld numbers, and material markings against drawings and traceability documents.
• Record measurements on drawings or inspection records, and clearly flag discrepancies, rework needs, and drawing conflicts.
• Coordinate inspection timing with fitters, welders, fab supervision, QC, and material control to keep rework to a minimum.
• Reinspect corrected work and document final acceptance in the project records system.
• Follow safe work practices around fabrication equipment, rigging, hot work, and material movement.

Required Qualifications

• Experience as a pipefitter, pipe fabricator, spool inspector, or in a similar dimensional QC role.
• Able to read and interpret piping isometrics, spool sheets, symbols, and fabrication notes.
• Takes accurate measurements and recognizes conditions that will prevent fit-up or installation.
• Comfortable with common dimensional inspection tools and recording measurements clearly.
• Basic computer skills for inspection forms and project systems.
• Communicates clearly and works well with craft and quality teams.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; demonstrated trade experience may be considered in its place.
• Able to meet project access, orientation, and safety requirements.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Piping fabrication and construction environment.
• Walking, standing, bending, reaching, and climbing throughout the shift.
• Handling inspection tools and working near pipe spools, fabrication equipment, and material handling.
• Must wear required PPE and safely access the items being inspected.

• Measurements and records are accurate, legible, and traceable to the correct spool and drawing revision.
• Inspections are completed within the project inspection sequence.
• Drawing conflicts and out-of-tolerance conditions are flagged promptly.
