We are seeking a highly motivated professional to take on a hybrid role combining the responsibilities of a Communication Specialist and a Community Health Worker. This unique position requires a dynamic individual who can develop and execute effective communication strategies while also working directly with community members to improve health outcomes and access to services.

  1. SITE OF EMPLOYMENT:

The site of employment may be the main KCHC medical clinic, the KCHC Administrative building, the mobile unit, or at any other location where KCHC provides services or staff performs work. Staff may work remotely with the permission of their supervisor and the CEO.

  1. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop, implement, and manage internal and external communication strategies for health-related initiatives
  • Write, edit, and proofread content for press releases, newsletters, websites, social media, and community outreach materials
  • Conduct outreach and engage with community members to assess health needs and provide culturally appropriate information
  • Assist individuals in accessing healthcare and social services, acting as a liaison between the organization and the community
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging and community engagement
  • Coordinate and manage media relations, outreach initiatives, and health education campaigns
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of communication and outreach strategies
  • Prepare materials for presentations, workshops, health screenings, and events
  • Collect data and maintain accurate records of community interactions and interventions
  • Advocate for community members, identify barriers to care, and work to address health disparities
  • Manage crisis communications and provide timely, accurate information when needed
  • Support leadership with executive communications and talking points
  • Engage with community leaders and organizations to form mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Manage KCHC Mobile Health unit and internal and external events.
  • Prescription delivery service (Driver)
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, that support the overall mission and vision of Kodiak Community Health Center.
Qualifications:
  1. ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Education:

Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Health, Social Sciences, or related field (or equivalent experience)

    1. Experience:

Preferred 2 years of experience in communications, community outreach, public health, or similar roles

         3. Other Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong editing and proofreading abilities
  • Proficiency with digital communication tools and social media platforms
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of local community resources and health issues
  • Bilingual abilities are highly desirable
  • This position requires operating a KCHC vehicle and eligibility under the auto insurance policy, including a minimum age of 26 and a valid driver’s license.

4. Cultural Competence:

  • Demonstrates complete understanding and responds effectively with sensitivity to special populations served by KCHC.  Special populations include, but are not limited to, those defined by race, ethnicity, language, age, sex, sexual orientation, economic standing, disability status, migrant, homelessness, seasonal workers, and the uninsured.
    1. Attendance:  Regular attendance and punctuality is expected and required.

 

    1. English Language:  Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
