The Railcar Portfolio Manager will be responsible for rail fleet sizing optimization and managing the procurement of railcars to support the logistics and transportation needs of Koch Ag & Energy Solutions, LLC. This role involves strategic economic analysis and optimization of our rail fleets and engagement with rail carrier partners to execute fleet strategies.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in rail logistics, procurement, and supply chain optimization and proven analytical capability. Applying structured and logical thinking to identify core business problems and demonstrate a 'nose for value' will be key to identifying what is most critical and important.
What You Will Do
- Collaborate with internal commercial and finance teams to assess demand to develop long term strategy for rail fleet.
- Develop and maintain relationships with rail car lessors, including contract negotiation and management.
- Develop understanding of the return on investment of different car types and collaborate with internal partners to optimize the composition of railcar equipment within the fleet and drive implementation.
- Provide fact-based points of view, backed with analysis, on potential procurement or fleet optimization strategies in response to market conditions, commodity prices, and logistics opportunities/challenges.
- Manage the end-to-end procurement process, from requisition to issuing requests for proposals to contract award and equipment delivery.
- Evaluate and improve rail fleet utilization.
- Use verbal and written communication to express and defend a point of view (with data) and succinctly articulate complex topics in written form
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Experience performing quantitative analysis OR financial modeling
- 2 years of experience in logistics, rail, transportation, scheduling, supply chain or procurement
What Will Put You Ahead
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for rail transportation.
- Experience in bulk transportation including grain, fertilizer, and chemicals
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
