What you bring to the table

  • Make sure the space stays safe, clean, and friendly for both guests and the rest of the team; speak up and report any safety concerns to the Safety Committee.
  • Provide exceptional professional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Reviews, evaluates and monitors department Purchase Requisitions for proper authorization, specifications and company policy compliance.
  • Provides training to entry users in various areas of SWS as required. Provides walkthrough documentation when available.
  • Accepts and handles source requests.
  • Reviews products for purchase by testing, observing or examining items. Estimates values according to knowledge of market price.
  • Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or competitive request for bid.
  • Prepares accurate and detailed Purchase Orders. Follows up with suppliers to ensure receipt of purchase orders and to maintain estimated arrival or completion dates.
  • Maintains organized procurement records as a tool for auditing and informative purposes. This includes Purchase Order details, internal & external communications, quotes/bids, contracts/agreements, product quality or performance etc.
  • Discusses unacceptable goods or services with managers, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
  • Reviews purchase order claims for conformance to company policy.
  • Expedites delivery of goods to users.
  • Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports.
  • The Buyer is directed to properly store any unsolicited samples from vendors, and notify appropriate staff as to their whereabouts, and as to when they arrived.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal direction with complete follow through of tasks assigned within time allowed.
  • Assist in the training and development of Tribal Member employees following The Mill's Tribal Member Preference policies.
  • Assist in physical count inventories of all departmental storage areas when required.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels based on business demands. Provides detailed usage data to management for establishing accurate par levels.
  • Work with department managers to set up inventory and cost controls and examine quality of product and grade. This is particularly important with any perishable product.
  • Works closely with Receiving on delivery issues by inspecting deliveries for shipping errors, improper handling, or quality issues. Determines the proper course of action based on appropriate processes and acts as a liaison between suppliers and involved departments to resolve problems swiftly.
  • Available to assist Receiving with daily duties when needed.
  • Jump in where needed to support the team and keep things running smoothly. (Other duties as assigned)

What you're responsible for (and not)

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities. It requires the ability to work effectively as a team member taking direction from more than one source.
  • The Buyer is not authorized to solicit samples from any vendors for personal use. The Buyer (as well as any other member of the department) is prohibited from removing any foodstuffs, paper goods, operational equipment, or any other asset belonging to the Company from the building, with the intention of taking it for private consumption. Samples, solicited or unsolicited, are property of the Company, and are to be used as intended, that is, tried and tested on property.
  • The Buyer (and any other member of the department) is prohibited from accepting gifts of any size or value from any vendor, as this may be construed as bribery or collusion.
  • The Buyer is not prohibited from entering contests designed to increase vendor sales, providing those purchases made during any particular contest fall within "normal" usages and are purchased at "usual" or more advantageous prices. However, any prize won in any contest remain the property of the Company and will be forwarded to the Human Resources Department and used at their discretion.
  • As a further cautionary statement to the Buyer, if there is any doubt in his or her mind about the ethics involved concerning a particular issue, it is always better to ask the Purchasing Director.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws; addressing complaints and resolving problems directly related to food items and non-food items.
  • The Buyer will abide by the departmental ethical standards policy.
  • This position is exposed to highly sensitive and confidential records and materials.

You'll need to be available to work weekends, holidays, and evenings when we are busy. While performing duties of this position, employee is required to stand for extended periods, and frequently walk, and use hands to; finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. It's important to stay calm and make good decisions under pressure, especially when dealing with stressful situations or upset people. Just a heads-up-the casino environment may expose you to secondhand smoke.
