Knoxville Community School District seeks to fill the following position for the 2026-2027 school year:

 

Director of Teaching and Learning 

Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements and demonstrate the ability to:

 

Required Qualifications

  • Properly Licensed with Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for this position
    • Iowa Administrator License and 
    • PK-12 Principal / PK-12 Special Education Supervisor - 189
    • Master’s Degree in Curriculum, preferred

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with the school improvement advisory committee to develop and implement the district’s school improvement plan.
  • Provide leadership in meeting the requirements of all accreditation standards, especially as contained in sections 280.12 and 280.18.
  • Assist in the administration and coordination of Federal TITLE Programs, TAG, ELL, HSAP, School Libraries, Teacher Leadership, and Special Education programs and services.
  • Administer all facets of planning, administration, evaluation of educational services for all students, age birth to 21, who are placed in special programs for ensuring optimal programming, instruction, and learning outcomes.
  • Develop and implement processes (e.g. staff professional development, new staff orientations, working with building principals, etc.) for providing services within established timeframes and in compliance with related requirements of special programs.
  • Encourage staff to set high academic and behavior expectations for students. 
  • Coordinate the development of student achievement standards, assessment methods, and reporting results to the community.
  • Develop a system of accountability; document that curriculum improvements lead to improved student achievement; determine trends in student-assessment results and recommend instructional programs to support student achievement.
  • Encourage leadership and professional growth among district staff. 
  • Coordinate staff development and curriculum development activities.
  • Coordinate and supervise all activities associated with the adopted curriculum review and revision cycle, recommendation, purchase and implementation of learning; including the role of technology in all curriculum areas.
  • Supervise the implementation of the adopted curriculum and hold teaching staff and administration responsible for the outcomes specified in the curriculum.
  • Provide District instructional leadership, including serving as a resource for teachers in the development of student achievement goals.
  • Collaborates with the district technology team to promote the integration of technology into the curriculum.
  • Develop and coordinate the budget for curriculum and staff development, including the use of Teacher Quality funds.
  • Actively pursue grants supporting student achievement, staff development, and curriculum development.
  • Ensures reporting compliance in accordance with the State’s accountability system.
  • Collaborate with internal and external personnel (e.g. other administrators, auditors, public agencies, community members, etc.) for implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.  
  • Works independently with others in a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Compile data from a wide variety of sources (e.g. staff, public agencies, etc.) for analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with organization policies and procedures, and/or monitoring program components.
  • Coordinate program components, support needs and material for delivering services which conform to established guidelines.
  • Direct services and the implementation of new programs and/or processes for providing services within established timeframes and in compliance with related requirements.
  • Facilitate meetings, workshops, seminars, etc. (e.g. leadership meetings, advisory groups, focus groups, etc.) for identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff and serving as a District representative.
  • Implement assigned programs and/or projects for conforming to district and state curriculum and/or instructional objectives.
  • Perform personnel functions for maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving effective, efficient service delivery.
  • Communicates with diverse groups and individuals; Handles difficult situations in a professional manner, diffuses argumentative behavior and maintains confidentiality.
