Position Overview:
Currituck County Schools is seeking a dynamic and innovative educator to serve in a dual role as Media Specialist and AIG Teacher. This position will lead the school’s media and instructional technology program while also providing specialized instruction and enrichment opportunities to students identified as academically or intellectually gifted.
Key Responsibilities:
Media Specialist Duties:
- Maintain an up-to-date digital and print media collection.
- Provide training and support for instructional technology tools.
- Advocates and promotes reading and lifelong learning
- Advocates the principles of intellectual freedom and ethical behavior
- Planning and implementing for information access, evaluation and use
- Creates and maintains an environment conducive to learning
- Encourages the widest possible use of print and electronic resources and services—within the school library media center, throughout the school, and through remote access
- Leads teachers and students in the collaborative process to select and evaluate resources that address curricular needs and learning goals for the information age
- Provide Library Science and Technology instruction to class daily as part of a specials rotation.
- Collaborates with school staff to design and implement short and long-range plans to ensure balance among teaching, instructional technology, collection development, and program management
- Organizes and maintains accurate inventories of print and non-print resources, technology materials and equipment in the school library media facility in a manner that supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and maximizes intellectual and physical access to resources
AIG Duties:
- Provide differentiated instruction to AIG students in accordance with district AIG plans.
Identify and support academically/intellectually gifted learners. - Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop enrichment opportunities.
- Coordinate testing for universal screening for AIG identification.
- Maintain required documentation and progress monitoring for AIG students.
- Participate in district AIG initiatives and professional learning.
Qualifications:
- North Carolina teaching license in Media Coordinator and/or AIG required or eligibility to obtain.
- Strong organizational, communication, and technology skills.
- Experience in media services and/or gifted education preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families.
