Summary: Excellent opportunity for an experienced finance and accounting professional who oversees all financial operations of the Firm. This role serves as a key advisor to the Managing Partner, Accounts Receivable Committee, Executive Committee, Compensation Committee, other members of administration and management committees in business planning and establishing, measuring, and communicating the Firm's financial goals and financial position, as well as implementing best practice financial policies and procedures. The following positions report directly to the Director of Finance: Assistant Director of Finance, Assistant Controller, and Finance Manager. The Firm expects a strategic leader who exercises a high level of professionalism and discretion while ensuring excellent client service and satisfaction in all areas.


Using sound judgment and strategic leadership, this position will assist with running the financial operations of the Firm, which will be accomplished in part through the following key areas:


Finance

Oversee and is responsible for:

  • Accounting, accounts receivable and payable, billing, and collections.
  • Financial reporting and analysis, periodic forecasting, tax filings, audits, and financial reviews.
  • Administration/management of 401(k) and cash balance pension plans.
  • Administration and management of client trust accounts and reporting.
  • Preparation of the annual budget.
  • Bank credit agreement compliance and related financial covenants reporting.
  • Treasury and cash flow management.
  • Financial aspects of contracts and agreements on behalf of the Firm and third parties.
  • Implementing and improving financial systems to ensure accurate oversight, reporting, and compliance.
  • Maintaining relationships with bankers, tax accountants, auditors, retirement plan third-party administrators and key vendors.


Operations

  • Provide advice and direction for continued enhancement of the Firm’s technology to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Support the annual Compensation Committee partner evaluation process by preparing reports, providing financial and performance statistics, and other committee information needs.


Leadership

  • Participate in strategic financial planning and support of management committees.
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication and keep abreast of crucial business issues.
  • Prepare and communicate critical financial matters.
  • Coordinate the development of the annual partner retreat and partner summit meeting agendas and assist in preparing meeting topic presentations.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance is required. A master’s degree in Business Administration or other business master’s degree is a plus.
  • CPA background is preferred.
  • 10 years of experience with a law firm or other professional services firm is highly preferred.
  • Successful candidates must have demonstrated experience with partnership structures and tax principles, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, as well as be flexible.
  • Prior management and supervisory experience are essential.
  • Strong business sense and strong financial analysis skills with ability to explain financial specifics and concepts in a business context.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels within and outside the Firm, be comfortable working with strong personalities, as well as deliver effective presentations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
  • Experience with the Aderant accounting software platform.
  • An understanding of SQL database reporting in order to effectively communicate project requirement with report analysts is a plus.


Reports to: Managing Partner

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This position depends upon the ability of the employee to work closely with the Managing Partner, executive employees, partners, and staff members during regularly scheduled hours. This position requires the ability to work outside of regular business hours, which often cannot be predicted.


Location: Irvine Office (non-remote)
