About Us:
KNM is a national litigation firm with an active insurance coverage and bad faith practice. Knight Nicastro MacKay is highly respected for the depth and breadth of legal advice it provides to insurance companies, from small regional carriers to multi-national carriers. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced coverage attorney to join a growing insurance coverage and bad faith practice group. This position requires deep analytical skills with strong attention to detail, as well as experience litigating coverage and bad faith suits in state and federal court.
Position Overview:
The ideal candidate would have 7 years of legal practice with at least three years focused primarily on analyzing insurance coverage issues and litigating declaratory judgment actions. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in bad faith litigation, including second-chair trial experience. Some travel will likely be required, and qualified candidates must be licensed to practice in Missouri, Kansas, or Illinois and eligible for admission in all federal courts.
Responsibilities
- Manage coverage assignments from the originating partner.
- Conduct legal research, draft coverage opinions, and participate in committee calls with clients.
- Draft legal pleadings for declaratory judgment and bad faith actions.
- Working knowledge of federal court practice and procedure.
- Direct client contact and opportunities to market your skills and capabilities for additional work.
- You will collaborate with other accomplished lawyers in your office and across the firm, managing multiple cases at a time.
Requirements:
- License to practice law in Kansas, Missouri, or Illinois
- Admission to one or more federal courts, with eligibility to be admitted to all
- Practice a minimum of 7 years with at least 3 years dedicated to coverage and/or bad faith
- Excellent verbal communication and negotiation skills
- Excellent writing skills
- Strong analytical skills
