Firm Overview
Knighthead Funding, LLC, is a real estate credit firm focused on originating and managing commercial real estate debt investments across the United States. The firm is seeking a Vice President, Asset Management, to provide senior-level leadership and oversight for its commercial mortgage portfolio.
Position Overview
This role is responsible for the strategic oversight, performance monitoring, and risk management of a diversified portfolio of commercial real estate loans. It requires strong credit expertise, sound independent judgment, and the ability to manage complex investments across a range of business plans and capital structures.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Oversight & Risk Management
- Proactively manage a portfolio of commercial real estate loans across property types and geographies
- Monitor property performance, borrower reporting, market conditions, and loan covenant compliance
- Identify emerging credit or market risks, maintain a dynamic watchlist of higher-risk assets, and develop proactive mitigation and resolution strategies to protect capital.
- Conduct regular re-underwriting and collateral valuation reviews Borrower & Transaction Management
- Serve as primary post-closing contact for borrowers
- Review borrower requests, including lease approvals, draw requests, consents, and waivers
- Evaluate and structure loan modifications, extensions, and restructurings as needed
- Coordinate with legal counsel on documentation amendments and enforcement matters when required
Financial & Analytical Responsibilities
- Analyze loan-level and portfolio-level cash flows, performance metrics, and return projections
- Perform stress testing and scenario analysis to assess downside risk
- Prepare investment performance summaries and reporting materials for internal stakeholders
- Support valuation analysis and portfolio reporting Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner closely with originations to ensure seamless transition from underwriting to asset management
- Collaborate with capital markets and finance teams regarding leverage facilities and reporting requirements
- Coordinate with third-party servicers, consultants, and property-level stakeholders
- Contribute to refinement of asset management policies, procedures, and reporting standards
Qualifications & Experience
- 8–12 years of commercial real estate credit, asset management, or restructuring experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing transitional, construction, or value-add loans.
- Strong working knowledge of loan documentation and capital stack structures.
- Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities.
- Proven ability to exercise sound credit judgment in dynamic market environments.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or professional certification preferred.
