Role Description The Trial Attorney will handle all aspects of civil litigation, including case evaluation, legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, managing discovery, and preparing cases for trial. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting and defending depositions, appearing in state and federal courts for hearings and trials, engaging in settlement negotiations, and advising clients on case strategy and risk. The attorney will collaborate with colleagues, paralegals, and clients to develop effective litigation strategies and maintain clear, timely communication throughout the life of each matter. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Kansas City MO, with the expectation of regular in-office presence and some flexibility for work from home.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Law, including civil litigation, evidence, and procedure.
- Demonstrated ability to draft and argue Motions and other litigation briefs.
- Experience appearing in Courts, including handling hearings, conferences, and trials.
- Proven skill managing Trials, from pretrial preparation through verdict and post-trial motions.
- Experience conducting and defending Depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and experts.
- Active license to practice law in Missouri (or ability to obtain admission promptly); additional admissions in regional states are a plus.
- 2–5 years of civil litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense, transportation, or commercial disputes.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills, with strong attention to detail and organization.
- Ability to manage a litigation docket independently while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
- Commitment to ethical practice, professional judgment, and respectful, inclusive interaction with colleagues and clients.
