Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Commercial Construction Accountant to join our finance team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage financial operations within the construction industry, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and supporting project financial health. Duties
- Accounts Payable / Receivable
- Process vendor invoices, subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, W-9s, and compliance documents.
Job Costing & Project Support
- Set up new jobs and budgets; track job costs and buyout records.
- Maintain Procore–QBO syncing and provide cost reports to project managers.
- Perform project closeout financial reviews.
Payroll & Compliance
- Process payroll (including certified payroll when required).
- Maintain PTO records, employee setup, expense reports, and payroll allocations.
- Assist with prevailing wage reporting.
Tax & Insurance
- Manage sales tax reporting, payroll tax reconciliation, W-2s, and 1099s.
- Complete workers’ comp and business insurance audits.
General Accounting
- Maintain chart of accounts, reconcile bank/credit card accounts, and post journal entries.
- Support month-end and year-end closing and assist with financial audits.
- Prepare and issue AIA progress billings and track payments, retainage, and collections.
- Review change orders and maintain accurate AP/AR reporting.
- Perform budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support project planning and decision-making.
- Support audit processes by preparing documentation for internal and external audits; assist with auditing procedures related to governmental or public accounting standards.
Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Accounting or related field (preferred).
- 3 years bookkeeping/accounting experience in commercial construction (required).
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Procore (required).
- Strong knowledge of job costing, AIA billing, retainage, and sales tax.
- Detail-oriented with strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proven experience in corporate accounting within the construction industry or related sectors such as public accounting or governmental accounting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, and relevant financial concepts including balance sheet reconciliation and cash flow analysis.
- Proficiency with accounting software QuickBooks, advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required.
- Proficiency with Procore Construction management software
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities. Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
