We are seeking an experienced, full-time Senior Project Scientist to support environmental compliance and investigation projects for federal and private-sector clients throughout the San Diego region. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and project management support for environmental compliance programs, regulatory assessments, and environmental investigations. Projects may include facility inspections, compliance audits, environmental sampling, regulatory reporting, permitting, and environmental condition assessments. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, project coordination, and client engagement to support compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

This role is primarily office/ Hybrid-based with periodic field assignments at commercial or government facilities. Field activities may occur in outdoor or active project environments. Regional travel of up to 25% may be required based on project demands.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the management and execution of environmental compliance and investigation projects for federal and private-sector clients.
  • Conduct facility inspections, environmental compliance audits, and regulatory assessments.
  • Provide technical support for compliance with federal and state environmental regulations including the Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), and Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA).
  • Support environmental programs involving hazardous materials management, hazardous waste compliance, storage tank systems, stormwater management, air quality compliance, and pollution prevention (P2).
  • Lead or participate in environmental field investigations, including sampling of soil, groundwater, stormwater, wastewater, and drinking water systems.
  • Prepare and review technical documents, including Work Plans, Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs), Site Safety and Health Plans (SSHPs), Accident Prevention Plans (APPs), and regulatory compliance reports.
  • Collect, manage, and interpret environmental field data and laboratory analytical results.
  • Perform engineering or scientific calculations and technical evaluations to support project findings and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, project team members, and clients to support successful project execution.
  • Prepare technical reports, regulatory documentation, and client deliverables, serving as primary author when required.
  • Mentor junior staff and assist with field team coordination and technical guidance.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Chemistry, Biology, Civil Engineering, or a related scientific discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 4–7 years of experience supporting environmental compliance or environmental investigation projects.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, including CWA, CAA, RCRA, CERCLA, EPCRA, and SDWA.
  • Experience supporting federal or Department of Defense (DoD) environmental programs.
  • Experience conducting facility inspections, environmental sampling, and compliance assessments.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare technical reports and regulatory documentation.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Must pass a drug test, credit and financial check, MVR check, education verification, and criminal background check.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Other Environmental Liabilities (OEL) programs on military installations.
  • Experience with EPCRA Tier II and TRI reporting.
  • Professional certification or license (PE, PG, CHMM, or similar).
  • Active U.S. Government security clearance or ability to obtain one.
