Job Title: High School History Teacher (Civics, Economics, American History, World History)
Overview:
Klamath Union High School is seeking a motivated and dedicated High School History Teacher to join our academic team for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will be qualified to teach a range of high school social studies courses, including Civics, Economics, American History, and World History. This position provides an opportunity to engage students in understanding historical events, civic responsibility, economic principles, and global perspectives. A collaborative spirit and a passion for helping students become informed and engaged citizens are essential to this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach high school social studies courses, including Civics, Economics, American History, and World History, aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that promote critical thinking, historical analysis, and civic understanding.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction, to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Assess student performance through assignments, projects, discussions, presentations, quizzes, and exams, and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, inquiry, and respectful discussion of ideas and perspectives.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress in the learning management system and communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Collaborate with other social studies teachers, administrators, and staff to support curriculum development and student achievement.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in history and social studies instruction.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, and the community to support student growth and engagement.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience teaching high school social studies courses, particularly Civics, Economics, American History, and World History.
- Familiarity with Oregon state social studies standards and college and career readiness expectations.
- Ability to incorporate technology and primary source materials into instruction to enhance student engagement and analysis.
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including English Language Learners and students with IEPs.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families.
