SUMMARY OF POSITION: This position is responsible to assist with all aspects of the classroom operations.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED. Must obtain CDA within two years of hire date. Demonstrate the ability to express ideas effectively with staff/professionals/community members and work with a minimum of supervision.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Support the vision, mission and values of the agency in the implementation of the Head Start Performance Standards and Rules for Child Care Center.

2. Promote positive public relations and act as an advocate for Head Start.

3. Model behaviors that demonstrate an understanding, acceptance and welcoming of diversity.

4. Be responsible to encourage in-kind donations from families and community members.

5. Support and implement the Conscious Discipline Curriculum throughout the

program.

6. Abide by the Standards of Conduct/Code of Ethics and Statement of Confidentiality (see Policies 133.A and 133-1.A respectively) agreed to and signed at orientation.

7. Actively pursue community partners, to locate and access resources for families.

8. Maintain requirements as reflected in the Performance Standards.

9. Scheduled attendance is required to ensure an adequate staffing level.

10. Travel may be required to attend appropriate trainings. Travel may include overnights.

11. Work at other sites as needed.

12. Perform other duties as assigned.

CLASSROOM AIDE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Enter anecdotals in TS Gold as appropriate.

2. Develop positive relationships with families.

3. Attend and participate in regular meetings/discussion on needs/progress for each child when requested.

4. Be able to accurately fill out accident/incident reports as appropriate.

5. Help set up for meals.

6. Assist the teaching staff in developing and implementing goals for children.

7. Assist the teaching staff in the development and implementation of the lesson plans.

8. Assist with the design of the classroom environment and curriculum.

9. Assist with center and yard duties to assure maintenance of a healthy, safe environment.

10. Substitute for absent teaching staff, as needed.

11. Attend at least one home visit per class per year, as appropriate.

12. Attend and participate in agency meetings, trainings and in-services.

13. Attend job-related workshops as noted on annual performance evaluation.

14. Attend Child Development (CDA) classes as required.

15. Using the Head Start Philosophy work with individual children and groups, as assigned.

16. Attend, participate and commit to coaching plan.

17. Support other classrooms as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. Must obtain CDA within two years of hire date.

2. Possess a good working knowledge of community resources and agencies.

3. Demonstrate the ability to:

  • work with minimal supervision and accept and follow the direction of others;
  • communicate effectively with children and adults;
  • express thoughts in words and writing;
  • lead group discussions; and
  • organize and manage time effectively.

4. Possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record or have reliable transportation.

5. The ability to speak, read and write Spanish, preferred.

EMPLOYMENT – RELATED REQUIREMENTS:

1.Employment is contingent upon evidence of registry with the State of Oregon, Child Care Division.

2. Must have a negative pre-employment substance abuse screening and TB Clearance.

3. After employment must obtain:

  • Physical Examination - See policy Pers-07-716.
  • Provide evidence of auto insurance; to be eligible for mileage reimbursement or to drive a Head Start vehicle
  • Obtain DMV driving record document each year if driving Head Start vehicle or requesting mileage reimbursement.
  • Food Handler’s Card
  • CPR/First Aid

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.35 - $21.85 per hour
