OPEN POSITION: Deputy Fire Marshall/CRR Coordinator
Annual Base Salary: $90,092.40 - $97,443.96

This position plays a key role in supporting the District's mission through fire prevention, public education, and risk reduction initiatives. The ideal candidate will combine technical knowledge with strong communication skills to promote safety, enforce fire codes, and engage with the community to reduce risk and enhance public safety.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the general supervision of the Fire Marshal, inspects buildings for hazards and code violations, provides fire prevention education, and assists in fire investigations. Prepares detailed inspection and investigation reports, conducts follow-up inspections, and ensures corrective actions are completed in a timely manner. Determines origin and cause of fires and documents findings in comprehensive reports. Responds to public inquiries regarding fire prevention and safety. Conducts defensible space assessments and supports hazardous fuel reduction efforts, including coordination of community risk reduction trailers, wood chipper programs, and vegetation management initiatives.
Develops, implements, and supports community risk reduction (CRR) strategies to reduce fire and life safety risks. Uses data and risk assessment to prioritize mitigation efforts, targeting high-risk areas and populations. Promotes and supports Firewise communities and similar programs through outreach, education, and stakeholder collaboration. Maintains accurate records of inspections and CRR activities, monitors program effectiveness, and assists with reporting and compliance requirements. Represents the district in community outreach, coordinates contract crews performing mitigation work, and supports public education efforts focused on prevention and preparedness. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Consideration will be given to any combination of education and experience that would reflect meeting the qualifications and provide the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position. Equivalent or additional education, experience, and certifications from other states or agencies may be considered. Certifications and licenses must be maintained for the duration of employment.

High School Diploma or GED
Certifications/licenses
- Firefighter I and II (NFPA or equivalent)
- Fire Inspector I (NFPA or equivalent) within 6 months of hire
- NWCG Firefighter Type I (or equivalent)
- NIMS 100, 200 ,700 and 800
- Must obtain ICC Fire Inspector I certification within one (1) year of hire (this is not the same as NFPA Fire Inspector I. This is a certification through the International Code Council).
- Must obtain ICC Fire Inspector II within two (2) years of hire.
- Must obtain Fire Investigator I (NFPA or equivalent) within one (1) years of hire.
- Complete OSFM competency requirements within (6) months of hire.
- Possession of a driver's license valid in the state of Oregon and maintain an insurable driving record during the duration of employment.
Experience
- Five (5) years fire service experience.
Other
A residency requirement applies to this position. This position requires performance as a responder to emergency scenes. Residency with 15 minutes normal driving time of the Fire District boundaries is required.
Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, databases, Fire/EMS reporting and staffing systems, and the ability to operate within a network environment.
