As a Legal Assistant, you will provide essential administrative and legal support to attorneys and paralegals in a fast-paced family law practice. This role is responsible for drafting, proofreading, and managing legal documents, coordinating case preparation materials, and ensuring all filings are completed accurately and in compliance with court rules and deadlines. In this position, the Legal Assistant maintains organized case files, manages attorney calendars, and facilitates communication with clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel. The role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and proficiency with legal terminology, e-filing systems, and case management software such as Clio Manage.
- Draft, proofread, and format legal documents including pleadings, motions, discovery requests, subpoenas, and correspondence.
- Assist attorneys and paralegals with case preparation, including organizing exhibits, timelines, and case summaries.
- Regularly and accurately proofreads all documents to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to distribution or filing.
- File legal documents electronically (e-filing) in compliance with court rules and deadlines.
- Manage attorney calendars, schedule hearings, mediations, and client meetings.
- Maintain and update client files in case management systems.
- Communicate professionally with clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel.
- Monitor deadlines and ensure timely filings and follow-ups.
- Conduct basic legal research as needed.
- Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Assist with any other duties as required to support the smooth functioning of the law firm.
- 1 - 2 years experience as a Legal Assistant in family law.
- Minimum of a high school diploma required (College degree is preferred, but not required).
- Proficiency in drafting legal documents and familiarity with legal terminology and procedures.
- Experience with Clio Manage or similar legal case management software.
- Strong technical skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and PDF editing tools.
- Experience with electronic filing systems (e-filing) in state and/or federal courts.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities effectively.
- High level of professionalism and client service skills.
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
