Loss Prevention Associate
Position summary The Loss Prevention (LP) Associate protects company assets, prevents theft and fraud, and supports a safe shopping and working environment across the store. This role balances retail floor coverage with managing the Employee Loss Prevention Desk, including employee check-in/out, internal supply control, security system monitoring and troubleshooting, and safety inspections. Qualified candidates must be able to work at least one weekend day and 6:45am-2:45pm or 11am to 7pm.
Key responsibilities — Retail floor
- Patrol sales floor, stockrooms, and parking areas to deter theft, identify suspicious behavior, and enforce store policies.
- Conduct regular inventory checks, high-value item counts, and spot audits; report and document discrepancies.
- Intervene professionally when theft or policy violations occur; detain and process incidents per company procedures and local law.
- Work with store management and associates to implement loss prevention best practices (product placement, signage, customer service strategies).
- Monitor fitting rooms, returns, and point-of-sale activity for irregularities.
- Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a visible LP presence.
Key responsibilities — Employee Loss Prevention Desk & internal operations
- Staff and manage the Employee Loss Prevention Desk during assigned shifts.
- Check employees in and out: verify identity, log arrival/departure times, authorize access to restricted areas, and maintain accurate electronic or paper logs.
- Receive, log, and secure items turned in by employees (lost & found, confiscated merchandise) per policy.
- Manage internal office supplies and resources for LP and related departments: track inventory, reorder supplies, distribute equipment (radios, badges, keys), and maintain organized storage.
- Maintain documentation and records: incident reports, evidence logs, chain-of-custody forms, supply inventory, and daily activity logs.
- Coordinate with HR and store management on employee incidents, policy violations, and return-to-work procedures.
- Assist in scheduling LP coverage and communicating shift changes or coverage gaps to management.
Security systems, troubleshooting & safety inspections
- Monitor video surveillance, alarm systems, access control, and other electronic security platforms continuously.
- Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on security and alarm equipment; coordinate escalations and repairs with vendors or corporate IT as needed.
- Conduct routine safety inspections of the store and back-of-house areas, including exits, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, eyewash stations, and other emergency supplies; ensure items are present, functional, and in-date.
- Test and document status of emergency systems per schedule; promptly report and remediate deficiencies.
- Ensure compliance with local safety codes and company emergency preparedness procedures.
Investigations, reporting & compliance
- Conduct internal investigations into theft, fraud, employee misconduct, and safety incidents; gather witness statements, review footage, and compile evidence.
- Prepare clear, timely reports for store leadership and corporate LP as required.
- Testify or provide statements to law enforcement when necessary and cooperate with external investigations.
- Ensure compliance with company policy, state/federal laws, and evidence handling procedures.
Training & collaboration
- Train and coach store staff on theft prevention techniques, safety procedures, emergency response, and LP policies.
- Partner with store management, HR, and corporate Loss Prevention teams on audits, process improvements, and loss mitigation initiatives.
- Participate in regular LP meetings and required corporate training.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certifications in criminal justice, security, or loss prevention preferred.
- Prior retail loss prevention, security, or law enforcement experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with video surveillance, alarm systems, access control, and basic IT troubleshooting preferred.
- Strong observational, investigative, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient with MS Office and common retail/POS systems; experience with evidence logging preferred.
- Ability to handle sensitive information professionally and maintain confidentiality.
Physical demands & work conditions
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, climb ladders, reach, bend, and lift items up to 50 lbs.
- Work in a fast-paced retail environment, including exposure to inclement weather in parking lot coverage.
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
